Welcome to the website of the Alte Zeit Gruppe, part of the European Railways Association
Our society is open to everyone interested in the railways of the German-speaking areas of Europe.
We cover all periods from the very beginning in Bayern in 1835 through the steam era and right up to the 21st century.
While we concentrate mainly on Electric, Steam and Diesel Traction in Germany, we also take more than a passing interest in the fascinating railways of Austria and Switzerland. You will also find information and links to contemporary lines such as the Harz where Steam Traction is still very much a part of the daily roster.
Many of our members and visitors to this site are also enthusiastic visitors, collectors or modellers of Continental Railways and we provide information that is invaluable to anyone planning a visit or building a historic model railway layout in any gauge.
Within the member's area there will soon be a forum where members can exchange information and discuss anything from the climate in Bavaria, the number of rivets on the boiler of a Prussian T3 or the top speed of the latest DB I.C.E.
Month by month we will be adding more content to the website both in the public area and the extensive archive section available to members. This will provide a database of information and photographs simply not available anywhere else.
We hope that our website encourages you to join our group : we are a non-profit making organisation and our membership subscription is amongst the lowest of any Railway-related society. While we are a UK-based group, we welcome members from all over the world : full details of how to join are under the membership tab above.
If you're not ready to join the Association just now, you are still a welcome visitor. Why not register your interest in our free newsletter (see left) and we will be happy to email you when we add new content.
Enjoy your visit and come again soon!
